On Easter Day we celebrate ‘new life’ - the new life of the resurrected Christ, and the new life that we can have when we accept him as our Saviour and Lord.
Jesus, who died on the cross and had been placed in the tomb, has been resurrected to new life.
1 Corinthians 15:20-23 proclaims that Jesus is the first fruits of resurrection of the dead and that all who believe in Jesus will one day join him in the resurrection. And when this occurs, we will be transformed , i.e., renewed both morally and physically with ‘spiritual’ bodies adapted for eternal life with God in heaven.
But, we can also enjoy benefits of ‘new life’ in this life; because, Jesus’ work of redemption sets us free from guilt, addiction and fear – and provides freedom to know God, to love, and to change.
This Easter, as you enjoy your Easter egg, I encourage you to reflect upon the symbolism of ‘new life’ and the freedoms that we have as a result of receiving that new life that has been made available through Jesus’ death and resurrection.
And if you have not already done so, I pray that you will turn to Jesus, accepting him into your life as your Saviour and Lord, and receive the new life that Jesus offers through the freedoms won by him on the cross.
We wish you a happy Easter and the many blessings that Easter bestows.
